Favorites

In no particular order, my favorite teen books:

The Song of the Lioness by Tamora Pierce (this book changed my life)

Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn & David Leviathan (I truly believe that anyone who can’t connect with this book has no soul)

Looking for Alaska by John Green (I knew I wanted to be a teen librarian after reading this)

How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff (I read this one in one sitting – I don’t think I’ll ever forget Daisy & her incredible journey)

Madapple by Christina Meldrum (what a splendid, clever book! I don’t agree that this was truly a “teen” novel, but since that’s the audience for which it was published, I’ll name it among my favorites!)

Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr (exactly the right blend of faerie mischief & romance)

The Luxe by Anna Godbersen (historical [& realistic], gorgeous dresses – it was pretty much written just for me)

Gingerbread by Rachel Cohn (Cyd Charisse is simply unforgettable)

The Earth, My Butt, & Other Big Round Things by Carolyn Mackler (I’m not, personally, a huge fan of problem novels, but this one is just spectacular)

Enthusiasm by Polly Shulman (a story about fangirls! What’s not to love?)

Tithe by Holly Black (the first true teen novel I read in college – I still remember my first reactions to it)

A Fistful of Sky by Nina Kiriki Hoffman (such a fantastic coming of age tale)

Sorcery and Cecelia by Patricia Wrede & Carolina Stevermer (this is a truly “magical” book)

Of course, I’m also a sucker for both Harry Potter & Twilight, & their are numerous ‘adult’ books that I count amongst my favorites, but when it comes to teen novels, yep. Those are my favorites.
